Pairing: Taemseul[Taemin & Seulgi]
Concept: Ordinary life!Au Inspiration: New Man | Ed Sheeran [Completed] White curtains. Black couch. Grey blanket. White pillows. Black table. Grey carpet. Taemin didn't need to walk too much around the shop to find the right items. As long as it wasn't red, blue, pink, yellow, green, orange or purple he was fine. He wished there was a section for black and white furnitures but this shop was all about colours and it was disturbing. The worst of them all was yellow. It was such a bright and flashy colour. It was joyful, happy and lovely. In fact, it wasn't exactly about the colour but what it reminded him of. He walked to a clerk to inform him that he was ready to pay and to sign the delivery papers. They then walked to the cash where the other clients paid to finalize the purchase and it was pretty much empty. It was normal as the shop had opened not too long ago and not many people were aware of it with its antique concept and odd designs. That was totally a shop for him, Taemin hadn't even hesitated once to buy all his apartment's furnitures there when he saw the weird plastic animals staring at him and the chairs with missing parts in the vitrine. "Would that be all?" the clerk asked as Taemin took out his credit card to pay. Taemin looked around one last time to see if he wouldn't find one last object with unique motifs. His eyes caught onto a lean figure with long brown hair and a leather jacket. He squinted to make sure that it was who he thought it was and mentally cursed himself when the man next to her tapped onto her shoulder to point at him with a frown. Seulgi turned around to see with surprise who it was and smiled brightly when she recognized Taemin. The said man pretended to not have noticed her and quickly continued with his purchase. Taemin signed the delivery papers without even asking the clerk when he should expect his products and walked to the exit. He was maybe 2 metres, 1 metre or even less away from the doors when she called his name. "So close!" Taemin whispered as he stood right in front of the exit. He turned around to see Seulgi waving at him with her usual warm and cheerful smile. "Long time no see!" she greeted. “What’s wrong with you? I thought you were avoiding me for a second." "Me? How could I?" he smiled. "You say that yet you didn't even answer my email.” "You sent me an email? I didn't receive anything," Taemin frowned. He was lying and it was obvious even to the usually clueless Seulgi. "I sent it by mail last week and since I didn't receive any answer from you I also sent an email," Seulgi explained. "You should have received one of them. At least." Taemin shrugged and gave her an innocent smile although they were both aware of his lie. “What is it?” "You should give me your answer pretty soon even if you don't plan on coming Taemin, the organizer keeps asking me how many places to prepare and who responded to the invitations. It's so stressing." "Invitations?" Taemin raised an eyebrow. At this point he clearly wasn’t fooling anyone and Seulgi was tired. "To my wedding Taemin, stop pretending you don't know what I'm talking about," she hit his arm lightly. "I sent you an invitation twice." Taemin wondered if he should just keep pretending he didn't know what she was talking about or just admit that he saw them. Of course he saw them. He spent hours looking at the paper version with their way-too-perfect premarital pictures with all their way-too-pretty flowers and their ridiculous way-too-professional shots where they looked way-too-happy. It was worse with the animated picture from the email where they were both asking each other if XXX would come to their wedding, it was childish and funny at the same time. Worse, it was cute, disgustingly pretty and well thought. Even though Taemin would never admit it, Seulgi and her idiot fiancé could have been on the cover of any high-end wedding magazine. As Seulgi scolded Taemin for not checking his mail and ignoring her, he came by. Taemin liked to call him the triple treat: dumb, dumber and dumbest all together. "Taemin, it's been a while," Seulgi's fiancé Minjae said with a grin before proposing a handshake to Taemin. "Not that much," Taemin answered with a smile and tried to keep it on his face as he shook hand with Minjae. "What are you doing here anyway?" "We needed a few things for the house before officially moving in," Seulgi answered with a radiant smile. She looked so excited to get married and finally live her little girl's dream. Too bad it's with the wrong man, Taemin thought. "And you?" "Just renovating my place, there were too many old stuff laying everywhere." Taemin indeed threw everything out after he learnt Seulgi was getting married as everythingseemed to remind him of his ex-girlfriend, even the old couch that belonged to his parents back in the days. "That's great! You can finally stop being a has-been," Minjae joked. Taemin cringed at the remark. Seulgi’s fiancé was never funny and made jokes that were only funny to him. Taemin never understood what Seulgi saw in that man. "I guess there's hope for everyone. You might even stop be a complete idiot if you work hard enough Minjin." "How many times do I have to tell you that it's Minjae?" Minjae sighed. "He's obviously doing it on purpose," Seulgi said before lightly hitting his arm for not noticing something so obvious. They knew each other for years now, how could Taemin still not know his name. "You're awfully dumb Minjae," Taemin said with a smile. "Excuse me?" "I said you're awfully lucky," he lied with the exact same smile to trick the taller man. Taemin knew when to stop before Minjae (who was almost twice his size and pretty fit from all the hours he spent at the gym) would actually get offended. He knew that he wouldn't even last one minute in a fight with Seulgi's fiancé so he backed off when it was time. "Awfully lucky to marry her." That was the first thing Taemin said that wasn't a lie (other than Minjae was dumb because it was still only his opinion). "I know I am," Minjae smiled before taking Seulgi in his arms. He gave her a peck on the forehead and decided to not let go of her hand as if the identical silver rings on their finger weren't enough of a hint. You’re together, we get it. "Piece of shit," Taemin said "Piece of meat?" Minjae asked back. "We were just planning to go eat, do you want to come with us?" No. Of course not. If Taemin had to spend more time with this giant (and deaf) idiot he knew he would end up in a fight and finish his night at the hospital because Taemin didn'tknow how to fight. "Yes come!" Seulgi cheered as she took Taemin’s hand just like she always did when she was begging him, this was a habit she never got rid off. "When was the last time you agreed to come eat with us? Last year maybe, since you never answer when I call." It was probably his ego but Taemin liked that Seulgi had let go of Minjae's hand to ask him to come with them. It was also in the way she looked disappointed when she remembered that he never answered her calls. "Alright," he gave in, she always won anyway what was the point of trying to tell her no. So they went to the closest restaurant they could find because Seulgi said she was so hungry she was going to faint even if that was definitely an exaggeration. When they sat down at a table, Taemin realized what he had done: he chose to witness once again the saddest story he had ever heard of. His own. "We chose to go to some peaceful island instead of the famous ones in North America for our honeymoon," Minjae revealed as he took Seulgi's hand again. "His mother wanted to choose the wedding dress but my mom was against it, you know her," Seulgi said with a bright smile. "We ended up going to 7 different shops in the same day, it was awful!" "We will get married next month but it feels like I still need to wait another year to call her Mrs. Kim," Minjae continued. "It's too long, I wish I could wake up tomorrow and get married. Do you know what I’m talking about?” “No,” Taemin drily answered. “Anyway it was a metaphor,” Minjae brushed off. “What about you Seulgi?" "There's no need to rush," she chuckled. "I think it is already so fast considering all the things I stil have to do." There was another moment where Seulgi and Minjae stayed in their bubble alimented by their own wedding and anything related to it that put Taemin in an uncomfortable position. It wasn't exactly the usual that should beme that ran through his mind but he surely would have liked to push Minjae away every time he tried to kiss Seulgi and she pushed him away because it was embarrassing. Taemin was relieved to see that he wouldn't have to because the dumb giant left after receiving a call from work before they even got served their meals. Seulgi didn't look surprised at all and gave him a warm smile as he pecked her cheek and apologized thrice. She sure did look disappointed but Minjae didn't even notice because the person on the phone continued to talk and he seemed more preoccupied by what that person had to say than the look on his fiancé's face. "A typical jerk," Taemin said as soon as Minjae came out of the restaurant. "Who?" Seulgi said as she helped the waitress put the three plates on the table. "We'll take this to go please." “Your new man,” Taemin explained as Seulgi frowned. “He’s not new.” “Everyone after me is the new man.” “He has a name,” Seulgi rolled her eyes Taemin’s childishness. “Don’t make me say his name it feels like I'm cursing." Seulgi chuckled as she took a bite of her pancakes. "I don't know what you have against Minjae but you should stop treating him like that, he'll think that you really hate him." "But I do," Taemin said. "I don't know what you see in him Seulgi. He's not funny, he's dumb, he puts on way too much cologne, he spends all his money on stupid racing cars, he says stupid things, he is superficial, he dresses with expensive clothes just to be trendy, he's dumb and he leaves you alone. "You said dumb twice," Seulgi pointed out. "And what he does with his money has nothing to do with you or me, as long as he knows when to stop and Minjae never overdoes anyting." "What about the last thing?" Taemin continued with a frown. He unconsciously crossed his arms on his chest as he ranted because that's what he always did when he was mad. And he certainly was. Who was that dumbass she was going to marry for Seulgi to justify every one of his stupid actions? "You do realize that you were going to eat alone because Minjin decided to leave out of nowhere? He didn't even say where he was going." "It's probably for work, I don't know," Seulgi shrugged. "It is usually." "Usually?" Taemin furrowed his eyebrows. "I somehow knew this happened all the time without even knowing it and I'm mad that I'm right." "You're especially grumpy today," Seulgi laughed. "I'm sure it'll get better once you eat." Taemin wished he was as carefree as Seulgi and could joke about food at this moment but he couldn't. There was nothing funny. She didn't seem to realize she was going to spend the rest of her life with the biggest idiot Taemin had ever seen. They ate in silence and continued like this until Seulgi decided to start a new conversation on the same subject again when they came out of the restaurant. "You don't mean it when you say Minjae is dumb right?," Seulgi said with a curious glint in her eyes. "I certainly do," Taemin said. "Are you sure he wasn't talking to a mirror when he proposed?" "That's low," Seulgi hit him as they walked towards the nearest park. "Would it kill you to not mock him every minute? He is doing his best to make me happy and even if it doesn't look obvious to others, he does! Minjae makes me happy." "Does it make you happy to talk with someone who probably only has two brain cells?" Taemin asked sarcastically before sitting on the nearest bench. "Happiness is in the small things." "You don't even deny it," he laughed. "Would it change anything to you if I said that I thought he was brilliant?" Seulgi said. "No right? You can't see his positive sides." Taemin thought of two answers that were pretty similar ('of course I can't how do you want me to be happy to see you with someone else?' or 'of course I can't, how do you expect me to see someone who has taken you away from me positively?') but blurted the first thing that came to his mind. "I'm dead jealous." "What?" Seulgi innocently asked. "I'm dead obvious," Taemin pretended to repeat. She frowned and thought of asking what it was about but let it go because it was Taemin and Taemin could do the strangest things. "Are you planning to come to the wedding yes or no? I need an answer," Seulgi turned to ask him. There was hesitation in her voice and her eyes were expectant. "I might do something stupid if I go," Taemin admitted. Like throwing my shoe at your husband or saying yes when the priest asks if someone has something to say against your union with dumb, dumber and dumbest combined. "It's fine!" Seulgi said. "Please come, I want you to be there Taemin. You are an extremely important person in my life and I know it look weird to ask you this because of your position but I am glad that we can still be friends even after all these years. And friends need to encourage each other," she continued with her eyes filled with hope. "Everything is already so stressful and I can't seem to see myself spend the day without you around Taemin." "I don't think it's a good idea Seulgi." "At least for the ceremony I won't ask you to stay for the reception, just be there for me," she pleaded. "Please." Taemin pondered a bit out loud and hesitated to fully voice his idea but he was dying to get his revenge and the thought of doing it was just so appealing. "Can I just do something before it is considered really wrong?" he asked. "What?" Seulgi asked. Taemin then clasped his lips with ex's and cupped her face with his hands. Oddly, Seulgi didn't resist and let him kiss her even if she was about to get married to another man in not too long. Perhaps it was simply because the feeling was familiar and she didn't know how to react that she didn't push him back but Taemin preferred to think Seulgi was just as convinced as he was that she was marrying the wrong man. "Send my regards to your idiot," Taemin said as he got up. "And tell him that if I ever have to hear about him again, whether it is because he left you at the restaurant or the altar, I want it to be about him getting hit by karma or a car." "You don't mean it." "Yes I do Seulgi," Taemin chuckled. "But what about your answer?" Seulgi yelled as Taemin walked away. "Are you coming to the wedding or not?" "Not if your new man's around."
