Pairing: Seulgi and Jongin [Seulkai]
Concept: Christmas Eve!Au [Completed] "What did you give me last year for Christmas?" Seulgi asked as she painfully walked past all the pastries in the bakery shop's vitrine. "A gift card," Jongin answered. "For a noodle shop," Seulgi nodded. "And what did I give you?" "Socks," Jongin recalled with a grimace. "A pretty tasteless gift if you ask me." Seulgi shrugged. "They were pretty," she tried to defend. "Can we enter in the next random restaurant we find? I'd eat anything at this point," Seulgi almost whined. "It's freezing Jongin." The latter simply smiled before wrapping his arm around hers to help with the cold. Seulgi pointed out that it didn't help at all, especially for her hunger but blushed nevertheless. "Thankfully, you're only this exigeant when it comes to food," Jongin chuckled. "We're almost there, just wait a bit." As the two walked in the cold packed streets of Seoul, Seulgi truly felt like this was a date. The idea crossed her mind when she was choosing what to wear a few hours ago in front of her mirror but she had brushed it off out of embarrassment. It was Christmas Eve and they were spending it together. It was a first and Seulgi wished it wouldn't be the last as she looked around her with her arm tightly interlocked with Jongin's. There were couples everywhere and a few individuals who were still looking for the perfect last minute gifts. Whatever way they were looking, Jongin and Seulgi found someone showing affection to their significant other and maybe the thought that they looked like couple too crossed their mind but not one of them dared to mention it. Instead, they held tighter onto each other and blamed it on the terrible temperature. The warm lights decorating the streets for the holidays and various bright decorations onto the shops' walls made them remember Christmas was only a few hours away and that they hadn't joked about how Christmas was not made for people who weren't in a relationship like them just like they did every year yet. "Can I at least know where you're bringing me?" Seulgi asked after pushing herself closer to Jongin to avoid bumping into another couple passing by her. "Do you trust me?" Jongin said. He waited for Seulgi to nod before smiling. "It's a place I know you'll love." "Is it an all-you-can-eat?" she asked as her eyes gleamed in delight. "Not really," Jongin chuckled. Seulgi's sudden spurt of energy died down as soon which made Jongin laugh. "It's better than that," he said as he dragged her further down the street. Seulgi and Jongin reached the restaurant in a matter of minutes in which Seulgi tried her best to not look at all the food they passed by on their way there and Jongin did his best to distract her from her hunger with his lame jokes. When they arrived, a waiter surprised them by welcoming them to a designated table. Well, only Seulgi was genuinely surprised but Jongin didn't think the waiter would have remembered him from his visit about two days ago to do a reservation. "You should have told me we were coming here, I would have worn something better," Seulgi said a bit self-conscious of her attire. "You look perfect the way you are now, don't be foolish," Jongin said as he took off his coat. Seulgi slightly blushed and avoided thinking too much about how pretty this restaurant was to not get her hopes up about the reason behind this "date". After all, it was all so sudden: Jongin had called her in the morning to ask her if she had anything planned for tonight and she said she didn't so he came up with this. "What happened to your night out with your friends? It was cancelled last minute?" Seulgi asked as she scanned the menu. "I told you I wasn't going last time," Jongin reminded her. "When?" "During the calculus class two weeks ago." "Really? Sorry, I wasn't completely mentally there," Seulgi apologized with an embarrassed laugh. "Yeah you told me you had a paper to hand in so you didn't get any sleep the night before," he recalled. Seulgi smiled at how Jongin remembered all these details even when she forgot. She appreciated how he was always so attentive to others. "So what happened? You simply didn't feel like it?" Seulgi asked after the waiter took their order. "Something else came up," Jongin said as he shyly scratched his nose. Seulgi frowned in confusion. "What?" "I just thought we could maybe do something together so I canceled it, that's it," Jongin admitted embarrassed. Seulgi blushed. "That's… nice of you," she said embarrassed too. "That's nice to have thought of me, thank you." Jongin shook his head from left to right before laughing at Seulgi's flustered face. "I'm sorry, I'm making this awkward," he apologized. "It's only awkward if we say it is," Seulgi reasoned as a smile was forming on her lips. Jongin's laugh was always so contagious. "We have to make it become normal," Jongin finally said after thinking for a bit. "Isn't that the only way to get accustomed to anything? To repeat it and make it something ordinary." "So what do you propose? That we spend more time together?" Seulgi asked. "I'm all for it." "That's exactly what I'm saying," he smiled back. Jongin and Seulgi ate slowly, enjoying each other's company as usual. Joking and unfolding stories they didn't tell each other when they were away was their habit. They talked about various random things until they finally went out of the restaurant, from Seulgi's blonde and pretty much dried hair to Jongin's recent obsession for brown clothes. "It's because of bears isn't it?" Seulgi turned to ask him as she opened the door of the restaurant. "Well, it's just a pretty color," Jongin said as he naturally interlocked Seulgi's arm with his to return to their previous position. They had agreed on trying to make this become normal too: one step at a time, they would stop being awkward with things they wished to do more often. "It goes with everything." "It depends if you can pull it off with any color, I wouldn't say it's neutral," Seulgi commented while walking closer to Jongin. She remembered how cold it was outside when the cold air brushed against her skin. "I pull it off, don't I?" Jongin turned to ask her. Seulgi smiled to tease him. Jongin softly nudged her to get an answer but Seulgi wouldn't budge and they ended up jokingly quarreling. Seulgi pretended to ignore Jongin as she walked faster to leave him behind while he easily caught up with her small steps. He nudged her once again so she could give him her arm so they could interlock their arms again like before but Seulgi pretended to not have noticed. Jongin whined that he was cold and that he was doing it for their survival but Seulgi could only laugh. "Bold of you to assume that I will accept this rejection," Jongin said as he reached out his hand again. "This won't protect us much from the cold," Seulgi said to not show how distressed she was when she felt Jongin reach out for her hand. His large and warm hand tightly wrapped around her smaller and cold one and Seulgi decided she wanted this to become natural between them too. Their hands were obviously made for each other Jongin thought when he realized Seulgi's hand perfectly fit into his. It was only common sense for Jongin and Seulgi to hold hand when it felt so right, they both couldn't believe they hadn't tried before. "What is it?" Seulgi asked as she felt Jongin slightly squeeze her hand to get her attention. "D-do you want to walk around a bit more? I don't want to bring you home just now," Jongin admitted timidly. "You know, I'm just bit lazy." "I thought we said we wouldn't be embarrassed about wanting to spend more time together," Seulgi chuckled after pointing out how Jongin stumbled on his words. "You don't need to find an excuse," Seulgi joked before nudging his side. "I don't mind but it's cold." "That's another reason to stay out," Jongin added. "Now we have a reason to practice getting used to be embarrassed, right?" Seulgi smiled although she wasn't convinced. She followed Jongin as he dragged her into the merry and jolly streets of Seoul. They walked past a few cafés and shops, a giant Christmas tree where they took some pictures and even crossed the bridge before they decided it was time to start going back. They were in a peaceful silence until Jongin finally decided to voice out his thoughts. He hesitated a bit before talking and clumsily said a few words before doing it again under Seulgi's adoring gaze. "You know Seulgi, we kept saying that we just need to practice again and again the things that make us embarrassed to become used to it," Jongin said as they slowly walked past a random park on the way to Seulgi's place. Their hands were now tightly intertwined and not one of them had even thought of letting go although it had been a while since they decided to hold hands for the first time, it just felt so natural. There was less light in this area of Seoul as the holiday decorations were not as popular with some shops and because of that, the blush that started creeping on Jongin's cheeks almost went unnoticed by Seulgi. "But have you ever thought that it's maybe because it feels weird to hold your best friend's hand and actually like it?" "Yes I do," Seulgi revealed. "I was actually thinking about that two seconds ago before remembering that I forgot to lock the door behind me when I left the house and that Joohyun will scold me again for it." Jongin smiled at his best friend's foolishness. "And what do you think of that?" he asked curiously before softly tugging onto Seulgi's hand to make her stop walking. "Isn't it fine?" Seulgi shrugged. "It's just a title. It's not written anywhere that best friends aren't supposed to hold hands and like it," she said as she distractedly kicked a pebble with her foot. The rock rolled a few meters down the street where the light was even more disappearing, creating a mystical and warm atmosphere where there was actual light. Seulgi looked up when Jongin turned to face her. "Yes it's a title so we can do whatever we want out of it, but don't you feel like there could be something different?" Seulgi took a second to regulate her breathing when Jongin took a step closer. She felt her heart pound faster and knew that her hands were trembling. She hoped that Jongin hadn't noticed or just blamed it on the cold. "Are you asking me or are you telling me that there could be something different between us?" Seulgi asked as she dared to take a step closer to him too. "These are two different things." "I'm telling you there could be something else between us and I am asking you what do you want to do with that information." Seulgi's smiled at Jongin's straight forwardness. She always liked that aspect of his personality. "Ok, let's say I know what that 'something else' is, do you think I'll like it?" she asked amused by this. "It depends," Jongin realistically said. "Something else could be something worse just like it could be something better than what we have currently." "Then what could be better than what we have currently considering that it's almost perfect?" "Perfect is a strong word," Jongin pointed out. "But I mean it," Seulgi claimed. She hesitated before continuing but finally found the courage to say what was on her mind. "You know Jongin, what I feel when I am around you is enough to make me happy for days." Jongin nodded silently while watching Seulgi intently. "And I guess that could be considered almost perfect?" she added unsure after locking eyes with Jongin. "Maybe that could be enough and maybe I could be satisfied with it." "But almost is never enough," Jongin said before taking a step closer to her again. "If you have to wonder if you're satisfied with something then it must be because you're probably not Seulgi. I know I am not." Seulgi naturally closed her eyes when Jongin started to get closer to her. She could feel his breath on her lips and her heart starting to pound crazily in her ribcage as his forehead touched hers. She waited for the soft feeling of his lips against hers but was met with a giggle before Jongin planted a kiss on her forehead. "Sorry, I kinda chickened out," Jongin admitted embarrassed when Seulgi looked at him surprised. "I imagined this differently but I guess playing it in your head and actually doing it are two completely different things." Seulgi blinked repeatedly to make sure this wasn't just a dream and realized it wasn't when Jongin looked back with his nervous deep brown eyes. Seulgi blushed before she knew it. "That sounds like another thing you'll have to get used to," she said with a grin. Seulgi took a step back and lightly hit Jongin's arm before walking away. "I don't mind but you didn't answer my question though," Jongin reminded Seulgi as he followed her. Seulgi handed out her hand for him to hold and Jongin grabbed it naturally which made her smile. It was already starting to become automatic. "Let's be brave for once and try the 'something else'," she finally answered. "I believe it will be better." "So you're aiming for perfection?" he asked curiously. "And nothing less." Jongin smiled .
