Pairing: Minseul[Mino and Seulgi]
Concept: Café!Au [Completed] Seulgi recklessly continued to tap onto the coffee table with her painted nails to match the slow rhythm of the music playing in the background. She checked her messages again. Of course, there was nothing. Seulgi didn't really know how to react to this. He was late and she was fine with it at first because she was so nervous and she was glad that she had some time to calm down but so much time passed and he hadn't even contact her yet. Seulgi's dad always told her that if a man made her wait then he wasn't worth it because it meant that he didn’t care about her as much as he pretended to and valued his time more than hers. For Seulgi, it didn’t go as far that and she was willing to overlook this incident but she sure thought that it was not polite that he didn’t mind making her waste a whole hour doing nothing at café. It’s not like she had better things to do at home but she expected so much from this first date and she was overly nervous and somehow excited at first but now all the magic faded and she was starting to find this first experience a bit deceiving. "Excuse me, can I take a napkin from your table? The waiter seems to have forgotten mine," the man next to her asked casually. Seulgi nodded and politely handed him a napkin before returning to her inoccupation. It was a handsome and tall man with dark hair who had been sitting next to her from the start. At first, they arrived at the same time and were assigned seats next to each other by the busy waiter who had many other customers to serve. Since then, the young man had already drank two espressos and looked just as bored as she was with his two drawings hanging on the far end of the table. "Can I take the fork too?" he turned to ask her a bit later. "Unless you're going to use it, of course." "In fact, it's for someone else," Seulgi apologetically said before bowing. "You're waiting for someone?" he asked her a bit surprised. "Yes but he is a bit late," she embarrassedly revealed. "If you want I can ask the waiter to come by here more often so you can ask him a fork or a napkin." "Oh no it's fine," the handsome man smiled. "I'd rather ask you." Seulgi unconsciously frowned. "I don't want to bother him for a napkin when the café is so packed, the staff must be busy," he explained. "Also, I was just asking because you looked bored out of your mind. You are really waiting a lot, I hope that person is worth it." "You aren't waiting for someone?" Seulgi asked innocently. "I wouldn't wait that long for someone," he chuckled. "That's too much even if I have nothing to do." Seulgi bit her lower lip as she thought reflexively. "But you do you, if you don't mind then keep waiting. I wasn't trying to make you feel uneasy, that's just how I think," he reassured her. "I am Mino by the way," he added with a bright smile. "Seulgi," she answered. "Then I won't bother you anymore Seulgi, have a good, uh, good wait?" he said before taking a pen out of his pocket. "Thank you." Seulgi returned once again to her table a bit flustered. It was the first time she encountered someone so casual and friendly. He was nice and Seulgi wished they could have talked a bit more, at least until her date arrived, since he was as bored as her but she was too shy to ask him anything. She had gone through all her social media accounts and read her friends’ messages twice before he decided to appear with an apologetic smile and a bouquet of flowers in his hands. She couldn’t help it but be relieved and delighted to see the man she had been waiting for so long come to her in the café with such a present. She forgot all the time she lost waiting for him and greeted the older handsome man with a warm smile. “You shouldn’t have,” she slightly blushed before taking the flowers. “They are beautiful.” “I didn’t really know what you liked so I took the most beautiful ones because they made me think of you,” the male smiled before sitting down. “I’m sorry for the wait, I don’t know what happened, there was a lot of traffic on my way here.” “Was there an accident?” Seulgi worriedly asked. "I was too frustrated to ask, I didn't want to make you wait more!" Seulgi was about to break into a fond smile but frowned instead as she looked more intently at the flowers. She gave the older male a strange look that made him raise an eyebrow. “What’s wrong?” Kibum asked. “Oppa, these are camelias.” “So what? You don’t like them?” Before she could answer, a strong tingling sensation started in Seulgi’s throat and her eyes started tearing up. She sneezed twice and was preparing for another one before throwing the bouquet on the floor, far away from her. "Bless you," Mino said as he distractedly continued to dribble on the napkin she handed him earlier. “Thank you," Seulgi said before returning her attention on her date. "I’m allergic to camelias,” she sobbed a bit. “I told you that last time at the club.” “Of all flowers I could choose, I chose the one you can’t stand, I really don’t have chance,” Kibum chuckled as Seulgi wiped her tears away. “Anyway, it’s a shame. I just won’t bring flowers next time, alright?” Seulgi didn’t know if he expected an answer from her so she remained quiet and tried to stop her allergic reaction by drinking water to chase away the tingling sensation in her throat. “Do they have nice drinks here? I’m so thirsty!” Kibum sighed before scrolling through the menu. “Ah! They have a special thing here oppa!" Seulgi excitedly said as her eyes lit up at the thought of the dessert. "It's called Flame of love and it’s a special meal for two with a huge dessert!” she exclaimed. “I always wanted to try it.” In fact, Seulgi saw the Flame of Love being served many times while she waited for Kibum as the café was filled with couples and it made her crave it. She craved it and would die to try this large strawberry lava cake but it was definitely a thing she couldn’t order alone. “Oh come on Seulgi, these things are so expensive and you get nothing on your plate. People just buy it because it looks like a thing for couples,” Kibum rolled his eyes. “I thought you were smarter than that.” “But it looks good,” Seulgi mumbled a bit ashamed. “Maybe they buy it because it isgreat you never know.” “I know,” the older male affirmed. “It’s probably just some overpriced gibberish Seulgi. I don’t see the need to go that far, it’s just a cake.” Seulgi looked down out of embarrassment and tried to look for something else on the menu. She was scared that he thought she was childish for insisting again so she she decided to opt for a bland iced americano and a Red Velvet cake while Kibum took a large strawberry shortcake with nothing to drink. As she looked to the menu, she felt a little pressure onto her knee. Seulgi looked down to see Mino's pen scratching her leg before handing her a small piece of paper. FoL is not gibberish! He's just a born hater Seulgi chuckled and Mino smiled as if he was reminded of something funny. She jerked her head up when she heard Kibum's voice asking for her attention. “So are you still drawing?” he asked her out of the blue after the waiter left. “Yes,” Seulgi nodded. “The club is actually doing pretty well. We have new members and everyone seems to get along.” “Doing well? Even after I left?” Kibum dubiously asked. “I thought the new president would ruin it truthfully but I’m glad it’s not the case. I had to graduate after all.” “Yeah,” Seulgi hesitantly said. “We all thought it was a great loss when you left the club. Especially me,” she bashfully added. “I mean, after everything you did for me... without you I surely wouldn’t be as good as I am today. I am grateful.” “Don’t be so formal with me,” Kibum chuckled. “I'll admit I helped a bit but you had a lot of potential from the start.” Seulgi blushed as soon. “Oppa, do you remember that time when you said you were going to give me a ride in your car? The shiny red one,” Seulgi excitedly said. “Can it be today? Obviously, I can take the bus to go home but I just thought it would be a nice opportunity...” “I don’t have it, it wasn’t my car,” Kibum distractedly said as he intently looked at something in the far back of the restaurant. Seulgi's shock caused by the previous information was soon replaced with the second shock that came from following Kibum's gaze. Her eyes then met with another girl at the other end of the restaurant smiling at him. She was about to gasp loudly when someone poked Kibum on the shoulder. “Sorry, she was smiling at me,” Mino said with a charming smile. “Ah yes, she looked like an old friend of mine so I was confused, sorry,” Kibum awkwardly chuckled. He then turned to Seulgi. “What was I saying again?” “The car, it’s not yours,” she reminded him dejectedly. She was too shocked to get mad, it seemed too impossible to be true. Did Kibum really just try to flirt with someone else right in front of her? “That’s right, it was my friend’s car but I wanted to show off a bit so I went overboard," Kibum explained as if it was nothing. "But he lets me drive it all the time so it’s practically mine,” Kibum smiled. "Practically yours?" Seulgi asked with a raises eyebrow. "But it's not yours." “Oh come on, it's the same thing," Kibum rolled his eyes. "He has other toys to play with.” “...toys?” Seulgi repeated dumbfounded. She heard a chuckle escape Mino's lips happen again next to her. Seulgi wanted to feel embarrassed as she probably would have if she hadn’t been so disappointed in the first place but all she could do was to remain expressionless in front of her date. It wasn't the same thing since Kibum lied to her and now she looked ridiculous. “I’m flattered that you wanted to show off to me but there was no need to lie,” she softly said. “It’s not like you need to do that in front of me, I already thought you were cool.” “Yeah I know but back then I didn’t think it was enough,” Kibum revealed. “It was my goal to have a freshman fall for me you know? It's every guy's dream! I already had the looks and the popularity to boost but girls somehow didn’t like me, I don’t get it.” Mino chuckled once again and apologized when Kibum turned to look at him with a questionable look. Of course he came up with an excuse and returned to his drawings. “I’m glad that I could be of any help,” Seulgi sarcastically sighed. She had never confessed to her senior and she always thought she had been subtle around him but he always knew and that was embarrassing enough but now he was just plainly rude. Had he always been like that? The Kibum Seulgi remembered was a reliable, respectful and admirable club president who made sure she was always comfortable and at ease in the art club. He helped her master so many art techniques and she was grateful for everything he did, even going as far as to develop a crush on this handsome older student who gave her special attention but now she didn’t understand. She honestly didn't know who was that person sitting in front of her. Seulgi was expecting to have her first ever date with the role model Lee Kibum, not this goofy clown who made her wait an hour, ridiculed her taste and lied to her about having a car. “But now that I think of it oppa, if you don’t have that red car, do you have another one?” she asked. “I don’t have any car Seulgi, what don’t you understand?” he sighed. “If you don’t have a car then what was the traffic you were talking about earlier?” she frowned. “I mean, it’s not like there could be traffic in the subway, right? Unless you took the bus,” Seulgi innocently continued. "Did you?" "Uh... yes, I did. I took the bus." "If you're going to lie at least make sure to do it well," Mino sighed. "Sorry to interrupt you, I just couldn't help it." Kibum seemed pretty taken aback and tried to change the subject but Seulgi wasn’t going to let it pass this time, he had gone too far. He wasn't even subtle. She was more than simply disappointed at this point. “If you were late for over an hour you could at least give me a real excuse,” she mumbled. “It’s not like I was going to scold you or anything I just want to know. Is it because of the flowers?”. “It would be really sad if he made you wait so long for something you’re allergic to,” Mino pipped in with a nod. Seulgi pretended she hadn’t heard anything and turned to her pitiful date with a sigh. “Is it because of the flowers Kibum?” she asked him again. “Yeah it was,” Kibum nodded as soon. “The line was just so long! I don’t know where all these people came from but it was a very popular shop.” “Come on, you can come up with a better excuse than that, she waited onehour,” Mino scowled. “Seulgi, you know me,” Kibum pleaded. Seulgi rolled her eyes. "What does that mean 'you know me'?" she drily said. "Since you've arrived, you mocked me, you lied to me, you openly disrespected me by flirting with someone else and it hasn't even been 20 minutes. I don't know what you expect from me with this." “You won't seriously listen to this stranger,” Kibum frowned. “It’s not a lie, I’m not lying this time.” “Actually that stranger knows a few things," Mino smiled. "That flower shop you’re talking about, Kibum is right down the corner,” he said as he pointed to the imprinted logo on the flowers’ wrap. “You probably bought them last minute thinking she would be glad to see that you bought her flowers to make her forget that you were late. I know because it’s a classic, just say you were at another date and let it go. It’s not like you haven’t already ruined your chances with her anyway,” he chuckled. “What a way to ruin someone’s day,” Mino sighed. “Fine I was somewhere else, why do you even care?” Kibum spat. “Do you know her? Did you two become friends while I was away?” “No,” Seulgi responded a bit confused. “But that’s not cool, Kibum,” she meekly said. “You should have at least told me you were going to be late.” “Okay, I’ll admit that was not nice but I didn’t think you would care that much, it was only a few minutes.” “67 minutes in fact,” Mino pointed out. “Would you mind your business for once?” Kibum ranted. “Gosh is it not possible to have a peaceful date here?" he yelled before standing up. "Do you want me to leave Seulgi, is that what you want?” “Why are you mad?” Seulgi sighed. “Please sit down oppa.” “Why are you trying to make him stay? He’s embarrassing, just let him go,” Mino grimaced. “I bet he’s dying inside right now because he got caught two-timing.” “I get it Seulgi! You want me to leave so you can spend some time with your new friend here, huh? So much for being grateful!” “If you were planning to leave since the beginning then just do it, what are you being so loud for?” Mino said. “You know where the exit is," he waved as Kibum got flustered. Before Seulgi could say bye one last time to her date and ex-favourite senior, Kibum walked out of the café with a frown and flushed cheeks, obviously very mad. “Are you going to see him any time soon?” the man next to her asked her with curiosity. He looked very amused by all this. She shook her head and explained that he graduated from her university two months ago and that it was the first time she saw him since then. “Good, you should completely avoid him now. He'S a pain in the ass." “Thank you,” she said as Mino chuckled. “I don’t know if I needed to be rescued but I definitely wouldn’t have figured out he had been to another date without your help.” “You wouldn’t have called him back anyway, it was written all over your face that you were tired of him. That’s why I was laughing,” he chuckled. “Plus, the camellias, that was very funny,” he added. Seulgi avoided looking at him in the eyes out of embarrassment. A complete stranger saw all this embarrassing first date and it was ridiculous enough to make him laugh. “But seriously, do you even love yourself to go after an airhead like him?” Mino distractedly asked. He looked over her table where he saw Seulgi’s untouched Red Velvet cake and the empty plate the hot-tempered idiot left behind him. He figure she either didn’t like it or she was too shocked to notice it when the waiter put down the sweet dessert in front of her ten minutes ago. “He wasn’t like that before,” Seulgi lifelessly said. “He was seriously different. I don’t even know who was that person.” “It was probably just an image, he said he was trying to show off in front of you.” “I don’t think he cares about me all that much anymore. I don’t think he tried to impress me even once when he was sitting in front of me.” “Don’t be too hard on yourself, it’s not like you’re missing out on anything,” Mino tried to cheer her up. Seulgi kept looking down again and seemed pretty saddened by this ultimate failure. The latter only looked up when the waiter finally arrived with Mino’s order and Seulgi couldn’t contain a gasp when she saw the hot heart-shaped lava cake being put down on the table next to her. She locked eyes with him and blushed when Mino chuckled a bit. “You want some?” he grinned. “Weren't you going to eat it alone?” she hesitantly asked. “Well yeah, although your boyfriend was wrong about many things, it’s true that this thing is more expensive than it should be, it’s not as big as it looks in the pictures.” “He’s not my boyfriend," Seulgi corrected as soon. “He's not even my friend. Anyway, is it good?” she said as she eyed the fuming dessert. If she wasn’t careful she could have drooled. “I honestly chose this café just because of this cake, I heard it was delicious.” “It’s amazing, really,” Mino smiled. “Come, I’ll let you take a bite.” “You don’t mind?” “It was meant to be shared." Seulgi took her bag and quickly moved to sit to the table right next to hers, determined to not let this opportunity go. Now that she was sitting in front of the man who saved her from a lame date all the while laughing at her, she could see that he was really handsome and it made her become automatically self-conscious. Seulgi was frozen and had to be egged twice by Mino to taste the dessert she was obviously craving. “So, do you like it?” he curiously asked. “It’s not bad,” she blushed. “It’s really really not bad.” “It’s not bad?! Come on take another bite, you must be kidding me,” Mino said. “If you insist so much,” she shrugged with a shy smile before taking another bite of the hot strawberry jam drooling onto the pink plate. “Yeah it’s as good as I thought.” “Now that’s a normal reaction,” he brightly chuckled. “What’s your name again? We might as well get to know each other if we’re going to share this cake.” “Seulgi,” she smiled. “Kang Seulgi. If you don't mind then yes I would like it." “Good, then it's another date for you," he exclaimed. "A date?" she frowned. "Yeah, it's a second date," Mino explained. "Listen, I'm just trying to save your day, it would be too sad if you went back home like this. At least you get to eat what you wanted." "Yes, thank you," she smiled. "Don't thank me, I am glad things turned out like this," Mino confessed. "I was afraid that you were waiting for someone at first and I decided to mind my own business when I heard you were but he happened to be a total idiot which is great for me." "It is?" Seulgi asked with a curious smile "Yes, now I have a chance," Mino chuckled. "Come on, you have to play along or it's not fun Seulgi," Mino joked. "It's a date." Seulgi giggled at Mino's foolishness. “Fine then what’s your name, if I may ask?” “Song Mino,” he smiled. “It’s nice to meet you.”
