Pairing: Baekseul[Seulgi and Baekhyun]
Concept: Florist!Au Inspiration: Wind Flower | Mamamoo [Completed] It was maybe too early, he hadn't thought this through. Baekhyun wasn't this impulsive usually, there was just something about her that made him feel different. He wouldn't usually walk past the park to reach his home because it was a long detour and he hated to walk in the cold. But he did it for her. He never liked to waste time looking at things he knew he wouldn't buy. And yet he did it for her. He was never interested in flowers until he met her. Truthfully, he still doesn't but the way her face lits up every time he asks her how she makes her bouquets is worth every flower in the world and he would give them to her one day, eventually. Was it nervousness that prevented him from going inside the shop although he had been standing outside for over 15 minutes or maybe he had just realized what he was about to do? She had seen him standing there a few times, she even smiled when their eyes met, giggling when he would return her a clumsy smile. She wasn't wondering why he wasn't coming inside, she was just calmly waiting until he would because it was always like that. Baekhyun would make at least 100 steps in front of the vitrine, faking to look at the flowers, hesitating between going inside or not when he knew he would anyway while she busied herself with her tasks until she heard the soft ring of the door opening. There, finally. She broke into a warm smile and welcomed the young man who seemed as delighted as usual to enter this casual flower shop. It wasn't big, there was barely enough space to walk between all the colorful flower pots and the mixed smell of the flowers could make him dizzy but he forgot it as soon he saw that endearing eye smile. "What brings you here this time Mr. Byun?" Seulgi smiled before pouring him a cup of tea. She asked him if it was cold outside— "Oh no, it's just that my cheeks get red easily. Do not worry." Seulgi grinned. "I know, I can come inside to see the flowers, it's really not that cold you don't have to worry." She didn't have to add anything else, he knew what she would say as they always had this same conversation that never lead them to more. "For what occasion is it this time?" she asked him as she continued to draw a large bouquet of yellow tulips in her sketchbook. Baekhyun pursed his lips. What kind of lie would he make up this time? He had the whole scenario planned in his head before entering the shop but seeing her so close always made him lose his composure. He ended up giving all the previous bouquets to his mother and she was ecstatic the first time but by the fifth bouquet she figured there was something strange going on and pressured him to do something it before she decided to make a garden out of all these flowers. That's why he was there today. "I want to surprise someone important," Baekhyun coyly said. "For a congratulation?" "Not exactly," he shook his head. "May I ask what for?" she turned to ask him with a curious smile. "It's… hm it's a bit personal." Seulgi blushed a bit before putting away her pencils and momentarily avoiding Baekhyun's eyes. She was clearly a bit taken aback but tried to brush it off by smiling. "Then i-is it for a woman or a man? If it is still too much I can make it neutral," she quickly added. "It's for a woman," Baekhyun answered as he watched her fidget with the end of her sketchbook. Seulgi bit her lower lip as she usually did when she was thinking hard and scanned the small shop. "Does she have a favorite color or does she know a bit about the meaning behind flowers?" "I think she knows quite a bit about flowers," Baekhyun took a moment to answer. "She even makes bouquets in her free time." "Does she like strong perfumes or barely noticeable scents?" Seulgi asked as she got up from her seat behind the counter. She walked to a pot of fresh violets and then turned to smell some daisies on her right. "I don't really know…" Baekhyun shrugged as he watched her with a fond smile. "I don't think she minds any of that, she just really likes flowers." "Any kind of flowers? Really?" Baekhyun shyly nodded. "That's interesting!" Seulgi exclaimed from the back of the shop. "I was just thinking of adding dahlias, they don't smell a lot and depending on the color, we can make it very meaningful… I know it's fall and it might be hard to find at this time but it might work. What is that person like, Mr. Byun?" "She is… she is very nice," Baekhyun pondered. He blushed when Seulgi turned to look at him with a pout. That was not very precise. "She is also delicate, no that's not what I meant," he corrected himself when Seulgi looked at him in confusion. "She puts a lot of care in everything she does, she is genuine and warm, she makes others smile with her own smile." "You seem to have a lot to say about this person Mr. Byun," Seulgi distractedly said as she scanned a rose. She frowned and gave up the idea, it would be too easy. "The truth is that I don't even know that person very well," Baekhyun admitted as he walked closer to her. Seulgi handed him some lilies for him to smell. "I am afraid that my gift might scare her or worse, become a burden." "It cannot," Seulgi reassured him. "It's the gesture that matters and you are a very good person, I am sure she will understand your feelings." "My feelings you say," Baekhyun repeated dejectedly. "Even if she were to be burdened by your gift, I am sure she will be thankful that you thought of her," Seulgi tried to cheer him up. "Flowers are such delicate things, it takes a lot of willpower and patience to watch them grow beautifully, I believe they are one of the most sincere gifts you can give to anyone." "You think that way because it's your job," Baekhyun chuckled. "You have to sell me the idea." "It's the other way around, it's my job because I think that way, Mr. Byun," she corrected him with a playful frown. "And with how often you come by, I don't think I need to persuade you to buy my flowers anymore," she added. "At least you noticed that," he sighed to himself. He watched her go around every potential flower for the bouquet with this cheeky smile that made his stomach turn and swirl and sighed again. How could he be in such a precarious situation? It had been 3 months that he came to see Seulgi almost everyday and yet she hadn't noticed anything. He would come by just to say hi, to ask her for some warm tea, to "look at the flowers", to ask her recommendations on how to make a cactus grow of all things, and that was clearly not enough. He wanted more than that, Baekhyun was infatuated with her by all means. "Mr. Byun!" Seulgi yelled from the other side of the tiny shop. "Yes!" He followed in her steps and helped her reach a box on the top shelf just like he always did— "Why not put it on the floor? Wouldn't it be more convenient?" Seulgi would answer that it could get dirty and that the content was too precious to do that. It was truly all in the details. "The bouquet will be ready pretty fast," Seulgi said as she put a pastel pink wrapping paper next to a yellow one. "When do you need it?" "Whenever you can," Baekhyun hesitated to say. He wasn't sure if he himself was ready. "Whenever I can?" Seulgi repeated confused. "It's for a delivery," he explained. "If you could deliver it for me Seulgi, it would be amazing." "But don't you want to give it yourself? You said it was personal," she recalled. "It's better that way," he assured her before taking a pen to write a note. "Here is the address, please give me a phone call to tell me when you are free to deliver it." "B-but it doesn't work like that Mr. Byun," Seulgi stuttered. "I can deliver it anytime youwant, it's not about me." Baekhyun tried to contain a smile. "Then this week, on Thursday, I will wait for you at 7 pm." "I will be there," she affirmed. "Put on your most beautiful dress," he added with a warm smile. Baekhyun turned his back on her before she could ask why and let the note on the counter as he headed out. With a small goodbye and a grin accompanied with flushed cheeks, she watched him walk down the street. Seulgi broke into a fond smile when she read the last words on the note. "Please make it so that even if I go back home feeling like a failure, I won't have any regrets by seeing her smile." "I will Mr. Byun," Seulgi whispered to herself. Once again, Baekhyun proved to her that he was very a good and considerate person. Her heart started beating faster as she thought of Thursday. It was settled, she was going to try her best. … Baekhyun nervously tapped on the table as he looked at the clock. Did he really wanted to do this? Well, yes. He hesitated way too much before to just give up now, he had to do it. Even if Seulgi never showed up, even if the simple thought of scaring her away with his feelings was eating him alive as he waited for her, even if he didn't know if he stood a chance, he had to try. It was now 8:15 PM and she hadn't called. At least it meant that she didn't call to cancel it, she was maybe on her way to the restaurant. "Stay optimistic," Baekhyun repeated to himself as he tried to shake away his nervousness. "It's simple and easy, she will come and you will get it straight—" Baekhyun lost his train of thought as his eyes caught Seulgi by the entrance, trying to explain to a waiter that she was looking for someone—"he is rather tall, well he is tall for me," she explained a bit out of breath. "He has this adorable rectangular smile and those very soft doe eyes that seem to sparkle sometimes, you cannot have missed him," she continued distressed. "He also smiles a lot and he is very caring, he looks like a puppy if it might be helpful. Now that I think of it, he helped me many times," Seulgi said dejectedly as she looked down. "I-I know I am very, very, verylate but Mr. Byun was counting on me for today a-and I took too much time finishing the bouquet because I was scared she wouldn't like it and I didn't see the time fly and now he…" Baekhyun blushed when the waiter pointed at him before cutting in Seulgi's long monologue and their eyes met. She thanked the waiter multiple times and hesitantly walked to Baekhyun's table that was not very far from the entrance. Seulgi bowed three times before saying anything and almost started tearing up when she looked at the bouquet in her hand and the empty seat in front of Baekhyun. "I missed her didn't I? I am sosorry Mr. Byun, I ruined it for you," she said between two silent sobs. "Do you want me to call her and tell her it was all my fault? I will take the entire responsibility." Baekhyun fidgeted with his hands and stuttered a bit before finding the right words to say. "You are very beautiful Seulgi," he finally said. She blinked at him in confusion. "The dress I mean, it suits you." "T-thank you," Seulgi bowed, obviously taken aback by the sudden compliment. "I-it's nothing special, no— most importantly, what should we do with the bouquet?" she asked. "And what about the lady—" "You should sit down first," Baekhyun chuckled after regaining his composure. "You can have it, it is yours." "The seat?" "The bouquet," he heartily laughed. "It is for you, it was for you all along." Seulgi looked at him in complete silence before taking a deep breath to really process the thought. "Why would you give me a bouquet?" "Before answering that, I want you to stop calling me Mr. Byun," Baekhyun smiled. Seulgi hesitated a bit, not really seeing the reason behind this all of a sudden and blushed hard when she realized what that meant. "B-B-Mr. Baekhyun," she stuttered. "It's a first step," he smiled. "Then what is the bouquet for?" she asked him with her flushed cheeks. "There are so many ways I could say it— I thought about it a lot," he coughed in between out of embarrassment. "So many more romantic, orignal and funnier ways to say it but in the end a simple "I love you" is… better." "I love… you?" Seulgi repeated cluelessly. She looked down at the bouquet she was holding and all the flowers she carefully chose based on what he told her about the person in question and it all became clear. Seulgi became as red as she could while Baekhyun smiled at her with the same fond gaze he always gave her. "I-I-" "It's okay if you are not ready, or if you don't want to answer at all," Baekhyun reassured. "I would also understand if you don't want to ever see me again too, that's okay." "I like you too," Seulgi finally mumbled. "You do?" Baekhyun repeated surprised. Seulgi timidly nodded while avoiding to look in Baekhyun's direction. "That's one hell of a surprise then." "I was pretty obvious about it though," Seulgi said. "That's very debatable," Baekhyun chuckled. "When have you ever showed your interest for me?" "I always answered your questions with a smile." "That's it? That's the only hint I had?" "I thought it would be enough," Seulgi mumbled under her breath. "Not really," he grinned. Baekhyun patted her head before asking her for the bouquet. "Let's redo it properly," he said as he hid the bouquet behind his back. "I made it, I know exactly what it looks like," Seulgi laughed. "It's the gesture, the gesture that matters the most!" "Then please go ahead," she smiled affectionately at his antics. "That is for you," he said as he handed her back the bouquet. "Should I pretend to be surprised?" "Yes please," he smiled. Seulgi broke into a warm smile before laughing. "Was that a hint too?" Baekhyun teased. "Yes, it means that I like you."
